What to do in Kalamaki

Try out Kalamaki beach first, it gives you a chance to relax and take in the sights, watersports on the beach are restricted due to the nesting areas of the Caretta Caretta turtles that visit the island on a yearly basis.  There are a few snack bars and beach bars which provide you with snacks and drinks on a daily basis and you can rent the sunbeds and umbrellas for a few euros.

Further along the coast you can walk into Laganas and the sandy beaches of Laganas, although they are much more crowded and noisy than the family friendly beaches of Kalamaki.  The beach of Kalamaki is where you find the Caretta Caretta turtles come to nest of a night at certain times of the year so be aware that some parts of the beach may be cordoned off.  Also sitting in the bay of Laganas means there are a lot of turtles swimming about, you can go swimming with them but watersports are restricted in the bay.

If your looking for places to eat in Kalamaki then try the Sugar reef in Kalamaki, its named like a cocktail bar but does some excellent Greek dishes and the service here is fantastic, a well establishes restaurant with good prices.  If your looking for something different then try Buon Amici which specialises in Italian cuisine of the highest standard, the food here is excellent and the place has got some rave reviews.

There are plenty of other great Taverna's and places to eat here, but if you have had your meal and are looking to explore the nightlife of Kalamaki then your first stop has to be the Fragile bar or Cave bar, with cheap drinks including beers and cocktails you can sit and relax here night after night on your Zante holiday.

Heading back to Sugar Reef, it opens up its cocktail bar later on in the evening after the diners have finished their meals, and the atmosphere here is excellent.  Also try out Coconut Joe's and the Drunk Corner.  The Drunk Corner was one of the first sports bars in Zante, and has a wide selection of sports available depending on what's on and when.

If you have a family or just want to try out something different of an evening get down to the Kalamaki crazy golf site for a few hours of fun.

It takes just 15 minutes from the airport by a coach transfer or you could jump in a taxi to get to the resort quicker.  Because the resort of Kalamaki is so close to the airport many people hire a car ready for them to jump in at the airport and drive straight to their hotel.

Kalamaki - Travel Guide

In complete contrast to its neighbouring resort Laganas, Kalamaki is a quiet resort with a calming traditional charm. Located only 2km from the airport (subject to some aircraft noise) and 5km south of the capital Zakynthos Town.

Kalamaki has maintained its Greek feel, with the relaxed and slow place of life still apparent despite its recent and increasing popularity with tourists from the UK and Europe. The beach at Kalamaki is part of Laganas bay and although not as big as Laganas beach it is still a nice sandy beach with gently shelving water.

The resort of Kalamaki is great for people who want to step off the plane and into their resort only being about 15 minutes coach transfer and close to the bustling Zante Town.  The resort is a popular holiday destination for families and couples and those who want the hectic nightlife of Laganas but have somewhere quiet and peaceful to return to in the evening.

Although Kalamaki offers a good choice of restaurants and bars, those wanting busier nightlife are best to head into nearby Laganas.  The nightlife here is absolutely perfect for families with English style bars doing pub quizzes, karaoke and showing most English TV shows so you never miss a thing even when on holiday.  The resort does attract holiday makers from all of Europe and you will find yourself enjoying your holidays with the Dutch, Italians and Irish.
